Leadership

Björn Hammar

Björn Hammar

CEO

Björn has unique expertise in the Nordic region in building platforms for both domestic and international markets. As a co-founder of the Finnish-based, Benchmark Capital-backed Igglo platform and having participated in several other investment rounds, he has an extensive global network and direct relationships with Nordic influencers. He has comprehensive experience in launching and scaling up start-ups, as well as in growth financing. His main attribute is grit, and he excels at talent management, combining vertical thinking with creativity and listening.

On weekends, he studies phonemes, reads, or spends time outdoors – and loves it! Still, the man doesn't hate Mondays, though he sometimes does Fridays, as the team is usually unreachable for the next couple of days.

Rauno Jokelainen

Rauno Jokelainen

CTO

Rauno is a people-centric executive with more than three decades of experience in the telecommunications and IoT industries. As chief technology officer he carries the technical direction of the Energy Coop platform: the software that runs at the edge, inside the building, the way it reads and controls the assets there — batteries, production and consumption — and the way all of that connects to the power markets above it.

Before joining Truman Data, he served as the winding-down CTO for UROS during its Chapter 11 period, leading the company's IPR handover and reporting liquidation processes to the banks. The work was to protect what a company still owns, keep the reporting credible, and bring operations to an orderly close. Before that assignment, he established an IoT innovation centre for the company in collaboration with Qualcomm.

Earlier, as Vice President of Radio Platforms at Nokia Networks, he led a global team spanning four continents that grew from a few hundred people to 3,200, many of them exceptional talents and true outliers. He has also taken a health-tech company through an initial public offering on the Toronto Stock Exchange, a different kind of discipline and one that leaves its mark on how a company is run.

Away from work, Rauno is a semi-professional player of games played with flying balls: badminton, padel, tennis and volleyball. He once captained the Cambridge University volleyball team. What he brings to Truman Data is a habit of building organisations as well as products — teams large enough to ship platforms across continents, and small enough that people still know each other's names.

Data

Juho Alfthan

Juho Alfthan

System Architect

Juho has more than 20 years of experience in IT, spanning cloud-based solutions and traditional legacy systems, product development and production, across several industries. Over his career he has contributed to projects in multiple industries, in both product development and production roles. Before Truman Data he worked at Accenture as a Delivery Manager. His educational background is in jet propulsion engineering — aviation, which is honest training for systems that have to keep working while other people maintain them.

He is regarded as one of Finland's most experienced cloud-service builders. His data warehousing and data management expertise was earned, among other places, on the massive data architecture project he delivered at Teradata in the years before and during the pandemic. Work in the financial sector has given him a strong understanding of compliance, and of how to build it into systems and processes rather than bolt it on afterwards.

At Truman Data, Juho is responsible for designing the overall architecture and for making sure it can scale, collect information and deliver computing power in the most cost-effective and secure way possible. A building full of devices, edge software and a cloud backend is an unusual place to design a system: the hardware sits in someone's basement, the network is not always kind, and the data still has to be trustworthy enough to trade on.

Equally important is his experience in testing and production deployment. He sees that solutions are implemented so that they operate reliably and integrate seamlessly with every component, across the AI and machine learning, IoT and distributed ledger development cycles.

Csaba Ortutay

Csaba Ortutay

Data Scientist

Born in Hungary, Csaba began his professional career in academia, completing his PhD in 2003. He specialised in complex data analysis pipelines — genomics, disease-related data patterns and formats, and the abstract mathematics underneath them. Since moving to Finland in 2013 he has worked as an independent contractor, helping companies with data engineering and data science projects, particularly in cloud environments such as GCP, AWS and IBM Cloud.

Alongside the consulting he has taught data analysis at universities in Europe, including Tampere University, covering statistics and analysis in several programming languages. He is also the author of Molecular Data Analysis Using R (Wiley, 2017, ISBN 9781119165026), a working guide for people who need to analyse data rather than become statisticians.

At Truman Data, Csaba makes sure that data flows correctly between the software modules inside a device and between those devices and the backend servers — the Energy Coop cloud. He is responsible for ensuring that the R and Python code, and the models built with it, run correctly in ForeCoop, the company's SaaS, with the miniPC serving as the IoT hardware for the flocks of devices operating in the built environment.

On the architecture side he implements data collection and storage, an AI neural system for decision-making, and a market data analysis and visualisation system built on GCP components: Cloud Job, Cloud Scheduler, BigQuery and Looker Studio, with AI integrations such as Llama 3 and Prophet, among others. Together these pieces form the working backbone of the platform: data in, models running, results on the customer's screen.

Advisory

Klaus Känsälä

Klaus Känsälä

Senior Scientist Engineer, VTT · Advisor

Klaus is a Senior Scientist Engineer at VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland, specialising in energy innovations. He is an experienced energy systems and smart grid specialist with a strong background in research, innovation and international project leadership. At Truman Data he takes part in management meetings and partner dialogues two to four times a week, so the advice is not a memo but a working relationship.

He holds an M.Sc. (Tech.) and an eMBA from the University of Oulu. In 2010 he founded VTT's Smart Grid Research Laboratory, and he is the innovator and lead developer of FLEXIMAR, the electricity flexibility trading platform that grew out of that research. His expertise covers energy efficiency, demand response concepts, renewable energy integration and measurement technologies.

He has advised major corporations and public-sector organisations on strategic and technical questions of the energy transition, and has held roles as researcher, work package leader and coordinator in multiple EU-funded projects. He currently coordinates GLocalFlex and leads the Energy Nexus Cluster, which brings together 13 European projects and 200 researchers working on energy distribution and demand-response solutions.

He has authored more than 90 scientific publications and holds several international patents in measurement technology.

For Truman Data that mix of laboratory and market experience is put to a specific use. The company is commercialising research begun at VTT, and Energy Coop has to work not only as a demonstration but as a service that property owners and municipalities run every day — which is exactly the ground Klaus has worked on since founding VTT's smart grid research laboratory in 2010.

Niko Myller

Niko Myller

Investment

Niko is a Professor of Practice in software engineering at the University of Turku and holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Joensuu. He is a founding angel investor in deep-tech companies and sits on the boards of several of them. He backs Truman Data with both an investment and an advisory role in AI, which puts him closer to the company's development than a distant shareholder would be.

His route to academia ran through industry. He co-founded SN4 International and spent more than a decade building it with his team before its sale to Bisnode in 2015. At Bisnode Finland he held leadership roles as Head of Analytics and Director of Operations, positions where data science meets a P&L and where models have to survive contact with real customers, real data quality and real deadlines.

At the University of Turku he teaches the first-year Introduction to Engineering course, built around linking what industry needs with what students actually study. His own work covers machine learning, data mining, analytics, information visualisation and computer science education, and he has authored more than 50 scientific publications. He is also a founding investor and board member of SeeTrue Technologies.

He advises early-stage companies through a special accelerator programme that supports energy and AI startups. He joined the programme's advisory group in 2024. Between the classroom, the board, his investments and the executives he advises as they scale up their businesses, he brings the perspective of someone who has built, sold and run a data business, and who now watches others do the same.
